PRIVACY POLICY – CO2EXIST APP & WEBSITE (www.co2exist.com)

CO2exist ("we", "our" or "us") runs the CO2exist mobile app ("App") and the www.co2exist.com website ("Website"). Through them you can book doorstep pickups of recyclable material such as paper, plastic and e-waste, get paid for it, plant trees, check your carbon footprint and take part in community activities.
We value your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
- Account information: your name, email address, mobile number and password when you sign up or log in.
- Pickup address: your house or flat, building or society, area, city and pincode, which you enter to book pickups. You can save more than one address.
- Location: if you allow it, the App uses your phone's location once, while you add an address, to fill it in for you. We do not track your location in the background. You can type the address yourself instead.
- Pickup details: what you hand over (for example paper, plastic or e-waste), the date and time slot you choose, recurring pickup plans, the weight recorded at pickup, and the amount paid for it.
- Withdrawal (payout) details: to send your earnings to you, we collect your bank account number, IFSC code, account holder name and PAN, or your UPI ID. These are used only to make your payouts.
- Tree orders and gifts: the number of trees, the planting site, and, for a gift, the recipient's name, email address, mobile number, occasion and message that you give us. Please give a recipient's details only if you have their permission.
- Certificates: your certificate number, name, planting date and the location of your trees at the planting site.
- Payments: tree orders are paid through Razorpay (UPI, card or other methods). We receive the payment status and reference. We do not receive or store your full card or bank login details.
- Footprint and quizzes: your answers to the carbon footprint questions and to any quizzes you take, and your results.
- Coins and rewards: coins you earn, rewards you redeem, your referral code and the friends who joined with it.
- Community: the society, office, college or community you join, and any competition you register for (for example your college for RYT).
- Bookings and waitlists: details you give when you ask us to visit a society, office or event, or join a waitlist for new pickup types.
- Notifications: a notification token from your phone, so we can send you pickup, payment, tree and other updates. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
- Device and usage information: your phone model, operating system, app version, IP address and how you use the App, to keep it working, secure and up to date.
We do not knowingly collect information from children without a parent's or guardian's consent (see section 7).
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To schedule pickups, plan routes, group pickups in your area, and send a team member to your address.
- To weigh and pay for what we collect, and to send your withdrawals to your bank or UPI.
- To process tree orders, plant your trees, issue certificates and send gift certificates to the people you choose.
- To show your impact, your carbon footprint, coins, quizzes, leaderboards and competitions.
- To send you notifications and emails about your pickups, payments, trees and, from time to time, updates and drives near you.
- To check that our service covers your area and to prevent fraud or misuse.
- To improve the App and Website, fix problems and keep them secure.
- To meet legal, tax and regulatory requirements.
3. SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only as needed to run our services:
- Our pickup team and partners: your name, mobile number, address and pickup details, so they can collect your material.
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and files.
- Razorpay: processes tree payments.
- Banks and payment partners: your account or UPI details, to send your withdrawals.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (Apple Push Notification service): deliver notifications to your phone.
- Our email provider: sends certificates, gift certificates and receipts.
- App update and distribution services (Expo, Google Play, Apple App Store): deliver the App and its updates to your phone. They see technical information such as your device type and IP address.
- Gift recipients: when you gift a tree, the recipient sees your name, the occasion and your message.
- Other app users: leaderboards show your first name and the initial of your last name (for example "Neha S."), your society, office or college, and how much was recycled. A certificate shared by you, or checked at co2exist.com/verify with its number, shows the name, number of trees and planting details on it.
- Competition and event partners: for a competition you join (for example RYT with the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, University of Mumbai), we may share your name, college and the material collected with the organisers.
These providers handle your information only on our behalf and must keep it confidential. We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
4. STORAGE AND RETENTION
- Your information is stored securely with Supabase, on servers that may be outside India.
- We keep it for as long as you have an account.
- When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days. We may keep records of payments, payouts and transactions for longer where tax or other laws require it.

5. SECURITY
- All data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Database access rules (row-level security) let each person see only their own information. Only authorised staff and systems can reach the rest.
- Bank, UPI and PAN details are used only for payouts and are visible only to authorised staff.
- No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
6. YOUR RIGHTS
You can:
- see and get a copy of your information;
- correct or update it (most of it in the App, under Profile);
- delete your account and personal information;
- withdraw consent, for example by turning off location or notifications in your phone's settings (some features may then not work);
- complain to us, and if you are not satisfied, to the relevant authority under Indian law.

7. CHILDREN
The App and Website are for adults. Anyone under 18 may use them only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. If we learn that we hold a child's information without that consent, we will delete it.
8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will tell you in the App, on the Website or by email.

TERMS & CONDITIONS – CO2EXIST APP
1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
- By using the App, the Website or our services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions and to our Privacy Policy.
- If you do not agree, please do not use them.
2. COLLECTION AND SALE OF RECYCLABLE MATERIAL
- We collect and buy recyclable material such as paper, cardboard, plastic, e-waste and other items we accept from time to time ("material").
- You confirm that you lawfully own the material and are selling it to us of your own free will.
- You confirm that the material is not stolen, disputed, hazardous, or subject to any claim by anyone else.
- Material must meet our cleanliness and segregation guidelines shown in the App (for example clean and dry, with no food, oil or liquid, and different types in separate bags). These may change from time to time.
- We may accept or reject any material at pickup or when we check it.
3. E-WASTE AND YOUR DATA
- Before handing over phones, laptops, tablets, storage devices or other electronics, you must back up and permanently erase all personal data on them, remove SIM and memory cards, and sign out of all accounts.
- We are not responsible for any data left on devices you hand over, or for any loss or misuse of that data.
- Batteries and devices must not be swollen, leaking or damaged in a way that makes them unsafe to handle.
4. PICKUPS
- You choose a pickup date and time slot in the App. Times are a guide and may change because of traffic, weather or operations; we prefer to group pickups in the same area.
- Please make sure someone is available and the material is ready at the address given.
- You can cancel a pickup in the App until 8 pm the day before. After that, please call us to cancel or change it.
- We may cancel or reschedule a pickup and will tell you if we do.
5. OWNERSHIP TRANSFER AND WAIVER OF RIGHTS
- Once we collect and pay for the material, full ownership passes to us permanently and it becomes our sole property.
- You permanently give up all present and future rights, claims and benefits of any kind in or arising from the material.
- This includes, without limitation, any environmental, recycling, regulatory, incentive, credit or similar benefits, whether they exist now or are introduced later.
6. PAYMENT AND WITHDRAWALS
- We pay based on the weight we verify at pickup and the rates shown or told to you at the time. Your earnings are added to your account in the App.
- Rates may change at our discretion without prior notice.
- We may adjust, delay or withhold payment if material is contaminated, misdescribed or not recyclable.
- You can withdraw your earnings to your bank account or UPI once they reach the minimum shown in the App (currently ₹100). You must give correct account, UPI and PAN details; we are not responsible for payments sent to details you gave incorrectly.
- Payouts may be held while we verify details or investigate misuse.
- You can also use your earnings towards tree orders in the App.
- You are responsible for any taxes that apply to your earnings.
7. NATURE OF RELATIONSHIP
- We act only as a buyer of material and a facilitator of tree plantation.
- Nothing in these terms creates an agency, partnership, employment, joint venture or fiduciary relationship between you and us.
8. TREE PLANTATION AND CERTIFICATES
- Tree orders are voluntary contributions towards plantation, at the price shown when you pay. Prices may change at our discretion.
- Contributions are used to plant trees at our planting sites, directly or through partners. Trees are planted in batches, so your certificate is issued when you pay and the plantation date is added once your trees are planted.
- A certificate acknowledges your contribution. It does not give you ownership of any tree or land, or any legal rights or claims. Tree locations shown on a certificate are approximate.
- We do not guarantee survival, growth, timelines, environmental impact or outcomes of plantation.
- Delays, changes of site or species, or substitutions for operational, climatic, regulatory or partner reasons are not grounds for a refund.
- Tree contributions are non-refundable unless we say otherwise in writing.
9. GIFT CERTIFICATES
- A tree gifted through the App is paid for by you and issued in the recipient's name. It is a goodwill gesture and has no cash value.
- You must have the recipient's permission to give us their name, email address and mobile number.
- We are not responsible for non-delivery or misuse caused by incorrect recipient details or third-party limitations.
- Gift certificates are non-refundable and non-transferable unless we say otherwise.
10. COINS, QUIZZES, CHALLENGES AND REWARDS
- The App may offer coins for activities such as planting trees, regular pickups, inviting friends, joining events, answering quizzes and taking voluntary challenges.
- Some challenges are self-declared and are not checked by us.
- Coins have no cash value, are not property or earnings, and cannot be withdrawn as money. Each quiz or one-time activity earns coins once per person.
- Vouchers and rewards offered for coins depend on availability and partner terms, may have validity limits, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time without notice.
- Misuse, manipulation, multiple accounts or false declarations may lead to loss of coins, rewards or earnings, and suspension of your account.
11. COMPETITIONS AND COMMUNITY
- Competitions (for example college challenges) run under their own rules, shown in the App, alongside these terms. Results are based on the material weighed and recorded by us or the organisers, and their decision is final.
- Leaderboards show names in short form and community names as described in our Privacy Policy.
12. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
- We are not liable for rejected material, delayed or missed pickups, access issues, or conditions at the pickup location.
- We are not liable for any loss of earnings, benefits, claims or entitlements arising from any environmental, recycling, regulatory, incentive or similar programme.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss.
- Our total liability, if any, will not exceed the amount paid to you, or by you, for the transaction the claim relates to.
13. INDEMNITY
- You agree to indemnify us and hold us harmless against any claims, penalties, losses or damages arising from false ownership, misrepresentation, data left on devices, regulatory violations or third-party disputes related to material you provide, or from your misuse of the App.
14. COMPLIANCE
- We operate only as a buyer of material and do not take on any responsibility for your own regulatory compliance, reporting, approvals or requirements, whether arising before or after the sale of material.

15. SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION
- We may suspend or close your access to the App or our services in case of misuse, fraud or breach of these terms.
- You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time (Profile › Account details › Delete my account). Earnings already due to you will be paid to the payout details you have given us, subject to these terms.
16. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
- We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the App or our services means you accept the updated terms.
17. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
- These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts in Maharashtra have exclusive jurisdiction.
